Series includes printed, typed and handwritten materials including drafts, correspondences and newspaper clippings regarding the writing of Forster (sometimes named Mackenzie). This includes 1 file titled ‘Jackie Novel’ containing 2 drafts of ‘The Seven Galateas’, a novel written by Jacqueline Mackenzie (n.d. c.1960). Another file contains proofs, press, correspondence and edited drafts relating to ‘Rocking the Cradle’ (1981), a book written by Forster about lesbian motherhood. Another file contains materials related to a chapter called ‘Metamorphosis’ featured in a book by Veronica Groocock called ‘Changing our Lives’ where Forster features on the cover. Files also contain early writing by Forster, then Mackenzie called ‘Petal Power’, a preface to the Pink Plaque Guide and correspondence re proposals for Forster’s autobiography, sample chapters, questionnaires, article drafts and newspaper clippings, often attached to typed drafts and interviews for publications such as Pink Paper, Gay News, Kenric Newsletter, Sappho (including transcripts of debates), Women in Media,Women’s Equality Group Newsletter, Pride UK Launch 1998, a Sparerib (1988) and several obituaries of known lesbians within her community.

Series contains correspondence relating to the personal, professional and activist work of Forster. This includes material related to her work in the theatre including The Royal Theatrical Fund Annual Report and The Shakespeare Globe Trust, invitations, correspondence between Forster and Dawn Airey re. a proposal about a lesbian and gay series ‘Outhouse’ on Channel 5 (1996), Sappho related material, material related the Gay Rights Act in 1995 and Stonewall organisation, reunion dinners, letters from publishers, a photocopied letter from the Prime Minister (1989), letter Forster sent to the Times re. The Times representation of Emperor Hirohito’s funeral, family letters, correspondence from a student union, the BBC and Channel 4, National Council for Civil Liberties and other activist networks and organisations. Also contains letters regarding the death and obituary of Sandy Horn. Series also contains personal correspondence such as birthday cards and postcards.

From 1955 where she was an actress and known as Jacquline Mackenzie, to 1965 where she’s described as a “‘retread spinster’ (ie. divorced)” to her later years where she was well known as a gay rights activist. Includes media companies such as Gay News, LIP magazine, DIVA Magazine, Observer, The Times, The Pink Paper, High Life, The Independent, Daily Express, Daily Mirror, Capitol Gay.

Series contains material relating to A Woman's Place (AWP), a feminist collective and women's resource centre based at the Greater London Council-owned Hungerford House, Victoria Embankment, London. AWP was active from the early 1970s to around 1986, when the GLC (who funded their activities) was abolished by Margaret Thatcher's administration; during its lifespan, AWP was an invaluable information and resource hub for women.

Series includes meeting minutes and agendas, correspondence, research reports, flyers and posters for feminist and lesbian feminist events, questionnaires, health literature, and more. File 4/3 Related feminist and women's material includes a sizeable collection of material relating to local, national and international women's campaigns, including newsletters and health literature.
