The Peoples Planning Inquiry Commission (PPIC) was established to run alongside a Public Inquiry that was set up to consider UK Atomic Energy Authority's (UKAEA) appeal against the Kyle & Carrick District Council's decision to refuse planning permission for test drilling around Mullwharchar. The PPIC believed the government lead Public Enquiry to be confined to certain interests.

Since 1922, NUS has worked tirelessly on behalf of students and students’ unions. Their campaigning work has resulted in many positive changes within higher and further education, improving the lives of thousands of students.

This year (2014), their lead campaign will focus on the impact of violence and objectification towards women students. They will be fighting for better rights for student parents and better representation for women in students’ unions.

National Union of Mineworkers : Nottingham Area

Formed in 1945 as a reorganisation of the Miners' Federation of Great Britain (MFGB), the miners' unions were for much of the 20th century a powerful force not only in the British union movement, but also in British politics. The Nottingham area is significant for the fact that many miners in Nottingham refused to strike.
