The Women’s Press LTD is a publishing firm established in 1978 and dedicated to publishing books for women by women, feminist fiction and non-fiction by women writers from around the globe. Publishing included literary and crime fiction, biography and autobiography, health, race and disability, women’s studies and cultural, sexual and political history. The publishers appear to have dissolved c.2013.

The Well Women Centre

The Well Women Centre is run by women for women. We aim to provide a quality, 'needs led' service promoting positive health care for women, by offering a range of health information, education and supportive services.

Our councellors work within the code of Ethics and Practice of the British Association for Counselling. All our counsellors have full CRB clearance.

The campaign for a Well Women Centre in the Wigan Borough began in 1988.

Limited funding was made available through the Urban programme to set up and run a Well Women Centre based in Leigh and the doors of the Centre opened in May 1992.

Established in 1987, The NAMES Project Foundation, Inc. Is the international, non-governmental, 501(c)(3) organization that is the custodian of The AIDS Memorial Quilt and its associated document and media archive. As a 501(c)(3) organization and in accordance with our by-laws, The NAMES Project Foundation is governed by a duly elected Board of Directors.

2012 marks the 25th anniversary of The NAMES Project Foundation, the international caretaker of the epic AIDS Memorial Quilt. It was in 1987 that friends and family first gathered in a San Francisco storefront determined to find a way to remember and honor the lives of their friends, partners, loved one lost to HIV/AIDS.

The Meridian was Glasgow’s first women's centre focused on black, Asian and minority ethnic women. Started in 1994, the Meridian aimed to empower women to live their own lives through education—including lifelong learning programmes, as well as health and language education—as well as offering communal events for women to connect and socialise, such as dances and celebrations from many different cultures. Creche and summer events were also offered to support with child care. It closed down in 2007.

The Lesbians and Policing Project (Lespop) was a project developed from the Gay London Police Monitoring Group (GALOP) in 1985 in order to support lesbians in relation to the abuse faced from the police. Based in London they offered workshops and phone-line services often focusing on how race and disability intersected with sexuality to influence treatment of lesbians by the police. Their advice focussed on how to deal with police raids, tactics for demonstrations, legal advice, and information on Section 28. Lespop also sought to research treatment of Lesbians by the police by working with lesbians in London.

Take Root

Take Root was a self-build group which existed from 1993 to the early 2000s. It was formed from staff from the Glasgow Women’s Library and aimed to provide women on low income, and in need of housing, the opportunity to build their own homes. It followed the work of Walter Seagal, the architect who pioneered easy-to-build, cheap houses with timber frames.

Stirling Women's Aid

Stirling Women's Aid began at a meeting held on 26th January 1977 at the Cowane Centre by Central Region Women's Aid (CRWA) and Scottish Women's Aid. CRWA, which began in 1975, had already established groups in Clackmannanshire and Falkirk prior to seeking to form a group in Stirling to help with the demand for refuge accommodation in the area. By April 20th 1977, the twenty initial women involved in the group had opened their first refuge. Along with Clackmannanshire and Falkirk, the three groups wrote the Central Region Women's Aid newsletter together.
